People with a passion for motoring, whether on two wheels of four, like to get together for shared experience, often with a completive side. Racing, of course. But also gatherings such as the Concourse d'Elegance.

  • In the early summer of 2004, I was invited by BMW Motorrad to the Nurburgring racetrack in the Eiffel Mountains of Germany to test ride a pre-release motorcycle, the K1200S. A hand picked group of riders from around the world had the Nordschlife (North Course) of the Nurburgring to ourselves with a handful of instructor/guides. The Nordschlife is 13.2 miles in length and takes hundreds of laps to even begin to learn, thus the BMW Instructors.

  • One Sunday morning Carces France welcomed one of the local classic car clubs. While there were many interesting cars on hand, the one that caught my camera's lens was this Ferrari Dino from the early 1970's.

  • At the pre-event gathering in Carmel for the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance, we caught this young man who had been granted permission to sit on a very rare Italian motorcycle from the early 1970s. It was this bike, the 750SS that put Ducati on the map when British rider Paul Smart won the Imola 200 in 1972.

  • Motorcycle builder Magni from Italy displayed these beautiful examples of MV Agusta motorcycles. The number 3 seen here is what is known as a retro design. While this bike looks like an MV from the early 1970s, it is actually a 2019 model.

    Ghost in the Machine
  • Decades after Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati won the prestigious Imola 200 in 1972 with British racer Paul Smart in the saddle, we caught sight of this beautiful replica displayed at the pre-event gathering for the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance in Carmel, California.

  • In Riva del Garda, Italy we found a vintage car rally organized by the German Auto Club, ADAC. You'll find a few shots in the Motoring gallery which were made at this event. This shot to me, speaks volumes. "She" waits by his vintage 356 Porsche while "he" enjoys the gathering.
